A home of quiet grandeur above the French Riviera
High above Cannes, one of the most iconic destinations on the Côte d’Azur, La Villa Perle enjoys a setting of exceptional prestige. Overlooking the Mediterranean and the Lérins Islands, the villa is surrounded by the beauty, glamour and rare exclusivity that have made Cannes a symbol of Riviera luxury.
Marcoux Mathern & Associés approached the renovation as a complete reimagining of the property. The villa’s original orthogonal architecture was preserved, while its atmosphere was softened through warmer colours, richer materials and carefully considered architectural interventions.
A majestic olive tree welcomes you on arrival, framed by a generous metal ring and standing as a quiet guardian of the property. Between the cypress trees, the residence reveals itself slowly, layer by layer. Further on, the landscaped patio softens the transition towards the private suite, offering a new perspective on the villa’s volumes and the harmony between nature, architecture and detail.
how do materials shape the character of this villa?
Every material was chosen for its ability to enrich the architecture rather than simply decorate it. Existing travertine is complemented by deeply veined Magic Brown stone, creating a deliberate contrast between the original structure and the new interventions.
Bronze plasterwork, Macassar ebony, natural textiles, leather and mirrored surfaces bring warmth and tactility to the rooms. Bespoke joinery, lighting and furniture appear to grow from the architecture itself, connecting spaces through recurring lines, textures and details.
A sculptural fireplace forms the transition between the living and dining areas. Combining stone, bronze-toned plaster and transparency, it conceals technical elements while subtly organising the different functions of the room.
a view that defines the architecture
Terraces, patios and gardens were carefully reimagined to bring the villa into closer dialogue with its Mediterranean surroundings. By removing existing columns, the outdoor living area opens fully towards the view, while aligned floor levels create a seamless movement from the living room to the garden and pool.
Layered planting, mature olive trees and carefully framed perspectives soften the villa’s strong architectural lines. Travertine edges and an aquatic mosaic with subtle golden accents add warmth and refinement, bringing architecture, landscape and horizon together in one serene composition.
where materiality meets intelligent control
Inside, the primary suite was conceived as a private apartment of around 100 square metres, offering a more intimate expression of the villa’s architectural language. The bedroom, dressing room and bathroom are connected through a sequence of bespoke volumes, where high-gloss Macassar ebony, refined storage and carefully integrated lighting create a calm, composed atmosphere. At the centre of the bathroom, a sculptural travertine bathtub becomes a true focal point, partly left raw to reveal the natural character of the stone.
The Basalte Deseo design thermostats, Chopin keypads and matching sockets in bronze integrate seamlessly into this warm material palette. Their refined surfaces echo the bronze metalwork, natural stone and bespoke joinery found throughout the residence. Designed to offer intuitive control over comfort and atmosphere, they bring intelligent technology into the home without interrupting the architectural composition.
La Villa Perle has not simply been given a new aesthetic. It has gained warmth, depth and a stronger sense of belonging. Bronze, stone, shadow, vegetation and reflected light unfold throughout the property in carefully composed layers, creating a home where every detail feels considered.
In this exceptional setting, Basalte becomes part of the architectural language, offering intuitive control without disturbing the exquisite interior. The Mediterranean remains ever-present, yet it no longer tells the story alone. Architecture, landscape and intelligent technology now come together to create a home that feels elegant, personal and beautifully in balance.
